This film was made to go in a special edition of the ABC’s Newsline programme to accompany the 18th Congress of the Chinese Communist Party in November 2012. Xi Jingping took over as leader of this huge institution at this Congress, so we made a profile of him for this special episode.
All the footage is mine except the American academic interview towards the end, as well as some of the shots from the even. The programme links were filmed inside Beijing’s Great Hall of the People during a rare opportunity in the course of the Congress.
